LETTER FROM A MOM

We want to sincerely thank the Sgt. Joel A House Summer Camp Scholarship Fund for sending our girls to Whited Bible Camp this year.  We have had a very hard time last year losing my mom (their grandmom) and my brother (their Uncle) within a week from another. This has put a great emotional strain on us. Also being diagnosed with breast cancer has put a huge financial strain on us as well. So having Joel House sponsor our two children to get them to Camp has been a tremendous blessing to our household. It has given us the necessary lift as well  that people do care and there is help out there. They so enjoy their time they're making friends, worshiping, and developing memories. Without grants like these it would have made it hard for us to send them. We greatly appreciate this.

Thank you!!

A "Crazy" Idea

The Sgt. Joel A. House family starts with a “crazy” premise:  we believe that every child who wants to attend summer camp should be supported, not just one or two applicants who “win” a scholarship.

With this premise in mind, we award scholarships to almost every applicant each summer (some children withdraw, or get money from other sources, or we’re just not able to verify them).

That means as our pile of applications grows each summer, our need for grants, donations, and fundraising increases.

Our Board of Directors has discussed selecting only a few applicants from the pool each year, realizing that some day the “demand” may outgrow the “supply”.  But the need is so great, how do we say “no” to a child?

THESE KIDS NEED YOUR HELP!

A RUSSIAN MOM OF A 1st GRADER

I asked for a scholarship for Samuel to go to one week of outdoors LL Bean Camp. Samuel is very active and athletic and really has been wanting to go to this camp for a while. But the cost of this camp has been preventing me from signing him up for this camp as I am a single mom and my resources are very limited. Then I found out about this scholarship fund. I decided to apply hoping this scholarship might help my son to realize his dream.

LETTER FROM 7 YEAR OLD

My great grampy was a soldier. He is very sick and I think he got sick because he was a soldier. Grampy told me that soldiers go fight to make sure we can all be safe here at home and go to school and play with our brothers and sisters. But grampy is sick now because he was a soldier so I guess that's why it isn't free?

(Dad’s Note):  The last sentence was actually phrased as a question so I told him he was correct. He got a smile on his face and wanted to call grampy! So this is my 7 year olds essay!
